Today I received an email from Rep. Cummings, who although he has been elected to congress in the name of the district where I live, does NOT represent me.
This particular email is more disgusting than the usual from the congressman, who is generally given to meaningless blather. Today's message carries the headline: Prior to the 2007 State of the Union, Congressman Cummings Asks What Type of Legacy President Bush Plans to Leave Behind
Here's my email to the Representative. Let's see whether he has the good manners even to acknowledge it.
How dare you attempt to upstage the President, with comments in anticipation of the State of the Union address?
This a grave breach of protocol in my opinion, and on your part is nothing more than one more cheap attempt at grandstanding, which so far as I have seen, is what underpins your entire career.
I have pretty well accepted the fact that you do not believe you are obligated to represent white people, under the false premise that there are such things as "black interests" and "white interests" that are mutually exclusive. The bare truth is that the only "black interests" are the career ambitions of politicians such as you, who unfortunately have been allowed to B.S. people on the basis of race. Silly me, I thought that the legislator was sworn to represent the interests of the people of his or her district, not one sub-group or another, and especially not based on their skin color or ethnicity. You and some of your colleagues have been getting away with this for so long that it appears you don't even need to bother using code-words to conceal the practice.
And the reflexive Democrat response to anything a Republican president has said is probably with us forever, although God knows what makes the members of your party think you always deserve the last word in any discussion.
But this latest bit of pandering is simply despicable.
I am ashamed to admit that I live in Maryland, especially when I could afford to live elsewhere.
