Ted Kooser,
who has been anointed a poet-laureate
writes with pathetic seriousness his "Hymn to the Comb-Over,"
Referring to that equally pathetic majority of American men
who will make themselves appear absurd
rather than accept the inevitable truth that scalp hair is deciduous, while ear and nostril hair is eternal.
From Doctor Phil down through that guy who is not only the Presidident of the Hair Club but a customer,
these guys reject the commonsense notion that in a man's maturity,
all that is vain, superfluous and impractical ought to be stripped away,
Leaving only the matter of Character, or the lack thereof.tags: poetry humor sarcasm baldness
