TV star Mo'Nique got kicked off a United Airlines flight Sunday after getting into a spat with a flight attendant, and this time ... she's crying racism."I felt like I was being treated like an animal," said the 38-year-old celebrity, ... "This happens to black people all the time, and they don't have a voice. I have a voice."The "Phat Girlz" actress, ...told the Daily News the incident started when her hair stylist stashed a hair dryer in a first-class bin. While Mo'Nique was flying in the front of the cabin, her aide was in coach. The "Showtime at the Apollo" host said she tried to keep her cool when a flight attendant first questioned the stylist's actions. But things escalated when another flight attendant allegedly refused to believe the beauty tool belonged to Mo'Nique."Tell your people that the next time they have an attitude, they are being thrown off. ... Since 9/11, we don't play around," one flight attendant allegedly told Mo'Nique."....The exchange ended in Mo'Nique being escorted back to Chicago's O'Hare Airport, where, according to the star, a supervisor called local police to complain of a "disgruntled and belligerent passenger." ... Mo'Nique said one of the responding officers was black - and eventually sided with her."You can't do this to her," the officer told the United supervisor, according to the actress.
Re-read the above, and find the evidence of "racism." This tub of lard does not allege that the flight attendants called her a n*****, or even a b**** or a 'H*. Only that they "disrespected" her.
First thing I'd like to know is how come the big-shot TV star flew First Class while her hair stylist flew coach. Doesn't seem very accomodating, diverse or fair. It seems kinda cheap. Presumably the hairdresser was not welcome to sit with her employer. Back of the bus, and all that...
Second, why would anyone blow up over a request from a flight attendant to remove something from overhead storage? Apparently Mo-what's-her-face is one of those people who goes around looking for some peccadillo to get offended about. How juvenile do you have to be to escalate a flight attendant's request into a fracas where police are called?
Finally, what does any of this have to do with race? Unfortunately, the world is full of entertainers who think the sun rises and sets on them, and are perfectly willing to throw a hissy fit when things don't go their way. Black or otherwise. Sean Penn and Tom Cruise spring immediately to mind, but the phenomenon is not new. An entertaining book entitled No Pickle, No Performance recounts the ridiculous demands of entertainers over the years.
To ascribe this sort of trouble to "racism" does a disservice to every black American who has had to endure genuine racial prejudice, and to the many non-blacks who stood shoulder-to-shoulder with them fifty years ago while schools, buses, restaurants and other public accomodations were being desegregated. Rosa Parks did not go to jail so that some overweight, under-intelligent load of crap could go around cracking nasty to airline people, half a lifetime later.
I'd bet there were other black passengers on this flight, and I'd bet they were embarrassed by this show of immaturity.
