Hollyweird Shit List

posted Monday, 31 July 2006

Al Franken is at work again. I'm not surprised to hear he has a Political Action Committee. I'm more surprised to hear that he is considered a "comedian."

Nonetheless, AP reports that dozens of entertainers have donated to FrankenPAC, or whatever he's calling it. Whether it's political solidarity, or they just want to get rid of the tiresome, bespectacled, overweight loudmoth (Franken, not Michael Moore) is difficult to judge. The AP reporter interviewed producer Larry David, who said, "Al is a friend of mine, so more than anything, when friends ask me to do things, I have a hard time saying no to people. If he asked me to drive him to the airport, I'd do that, too."

Nonetheless, many of the usual suspects have contributed to the [snort!] Midwest Values PAC, and for those of you who still care, a list of their names follows:

Quoting an AP story:

Politicians use leadership PACs to make political contributions to other candidates and to finance political travel. Franken, who has raised about $500,000 for the PAC so far this year, couldn't use the money for his own race, but he has used the contributions to donate money to the Democratic Party and to several candidates. Franken says he still hasn't decided whether to run for Senate.

Some of the notable campaign contributions made by people in the entertainment industry to Al Franken's political action committee.

Jimmy Smits, actor, $500

Aaron Sorkin, writer, $1,000

Barbra Streisand, entertainer*, $500        *so-called

Larry Hagman, actor, $555

Larry David, writer/actor/director, $5,000

Ronald Bass, screenwriter, $5,000

Nora Ephron, writer/director, $5,000

Christopher Guest, director, $500

Barry Levinson, director/writer/producer, $5,000

David Mandel, movie/TV writer/director, $5,000

Robert Nathan, "Law & Order" executive director, $5,000

Judy McGrath, MTV Networks chairman & CEO, $1,000

Lorne Michaels, writer/producer, $2,000

Harold Ramis, director, $4,700 in-kind contribution (hosted fundraiser)
