Six Years Ago Today

Aside from the horrible images of the WTC towers, here's what sticks in my mind the most about the attack on the USA six years ago:

• The feeling of astonishment that such a thing had happened, could have happened, might happen again at any moment.
• The eerie quiet over the next several days, while air traffic was grounded.

We take too much for granted: our personal safety (which most of us leave in the hands of others), and our freedom to move about the country unmonitored and unrestricted. These are just two of those things.

Whether or not I trust its government at any given time, I love my country.
