Support Peace or I'll Kill Ya

posted Wednesday, 5 July 2006

Just when Cindy Sheehan is starting on a new adventure, along comes this bloke and makes all the peacenicks look bad.

Quoting from the New Zealand Herald:

 A New Zealand peace activist is facing serious assault charges after he allegedly punched a rock singer in London, leaving the man in a coma.

Christiaan Briggs, 30, who spent three weeks in Iraq with the Truth Justice Peace Human Shield Action Group in 2003, appeared at Highbury Corner Magistrates' Court on Tuesday to face a charge of grievous bodily harm.

Police say the incident occurred on June 22 when Briggs allegedly punched 19-year-old Billy Leeson, causing the rising rock star to hit his head on the ground.

Mr Nadin said an argument broke out between the pair after Briggs allegedly "made advances" towards Leeson's girlfriend.

Police allege Briggs hit Leeson after getting off a bus at Camden Rd in Islington and left the scene.

Briggs was a London-based list candidate for the Green Party in the 2002 election.

 They just don't make pacifists like they used to...and that hairdo ought to be a felony in itself.

Yes, they're all about peace and love....until somebody disagrees with them, or tells them no. Here in Maine there was a 'peaceful' protest re illegal immigration going on and there was one person with a sign against illegal immigration. Well, surprising though it may sound, one of the 'peaceful' protesters bonked him on the head so badly that he had to be taken to the hospital where it took several (7?) stitches to sew him up. Nice people, huh? I haven't seen or heard one more word about it since, perhaps because Maine is nauseatingly liberal, and that just wouldn't sell papers. Now if the opposite happened here (a 'peace' protester getting assaulted by someone who disagreed with him or her) we wouldn't hear the end of it. I want to move soon.

April, I think you have to move away from either coast to escape creeping leftism. Just FWIW.

It's a long story, and a topic for a blog of its own, but I was in the army during Vietnam and was pretty vocal about the fact that I thought LBJ and Macnamara were lying to the public. (As it turned out, they were.) No sooner had I been discharged, than VVAW came around, trying to recruit me. This was about the time John Kerry was doing his protesting. I sat in on one meeting, and decided they were a flock of warmongers themselves, just off on some different cause.

FWIW = For What/whatever it's worth

VVAW = Vietnam Veterans Against the War (not exactly a computer acronym. This was the militantly anti-US group that John Kerry joined just after his navy discharge. They approached me in early 1972, and that long ago I could perceive the seeds of what we now know as political correctness. For my part, I was happy to have that chapter of my life closed. Period.
